Ouch
| This'll leave a mark. Via Alarming news it keeps coming. If Meghan McCain wants or thinks she can help pull Republicans left more power to her. And if that is her aim (assuming she has one) I hope she succeeds in doing so. It'll save the rest of us conservatives a lot of time attempting to differentiate the real from the fake. She's too caught up in pop culture to be of any real use to the conservative movement anyway. .....Unless, you know we could put duct tape over her mouth and stand her in the background behind a podium now and then. I'm just sayin'. Labels: conservatism, Media, Meghan McCain |

Juxtaposing
This....Democratic Reps. Jim Matheson of Utah and Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona have joined a quiet revolt in the House that could slow some of President Obama's fast-moving priorities. With this.... Many of the Blue Dogs regularly engaged in petty ploys to make it look as if they were not moving in lockstep with House Leadership, allowing them to claim they were independent of the liberals. Among other things, they voted against the approval of the House record of proceedings for the prior day, in effect, taking a courageous stand against the minute book. When one looks behind this sham distancing from leadership to the votes on the major major legislative initiatives on the economy such as this analysis by the Club For Growth, a very different picture emerges. Many of the Blue Dogs elected in 2006 had more liberal voting records than Barney Franks, Charles Rangel and John Murtha on important economic issues.Someone's paddling up sh*t creek with a turd for an oar and I'm placing my bets on the former mainly because it's obviouse and requires the least amount of thought. Steele, Limbaugh
Limbaugh ripped into Michael Steele this afternoon for showing, or not showing, what many think the conservative movement is lacking: balls. Big, shiny balls.Michael Steele has been around long enough to know that the liberal media will use him by twisting what I say or what others say. He took the bait, he bit down hard on the bait, he launched an attack on me even though the premise of what was said to him was false. He took the bait and he went for it. Now, Mr. Steele, if it is your position as the chairman of the Republican National Committee that you want a left wing Democrat president and a left wing Democrat Congress to succeed in advancing their agenda, if it's your position that you want President Obama and Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Harry Reid to succeed with their massive spending and taxing and nationalization plans, I think you have some explaining to do. Why are you running the Republican Party? Why do you claim you lead the Republican Party when you seem obsessed with seeing to it that President Obama succeeds? I frankly am stunned that the chairman of the Republican National Committee endorses such an agenda. I have to conclude that he does because he attacks me for wanting it to fail. Steele Responds.... “My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said in a telephone interview. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.” Steele seemingly completely missed the point on this one. It’s not about feelings, it’s not about searching for a common ground to stand on where no one is offended. It’s about showing some leadership built on conservative values and principles. It’s about saying what you mean and meaning what you say. The MSM is going to hate it no matter how it’s spun so trying to spin is a lost cause…get over it. The contract with America was 12+ years ago and Gingrich is still known as the guy that tried to take school lunches away from our kids. They’re going to hammer us, call us names and belittle us at every turn no matter what we do so we might as well do it right—all of this assuming Steele is a conservative. Limbaugh's voice is no different than it was 15 years ago. It's simply that today there's a vacuum for it to fill and that should be telling in and of itself. Stimulus?
| I was all set to post some thoughts on the recently passed stimulus? bill when I happened across this video along with the Bill of No Rights. I’m posting the video below but please visit the Jawas for the Bill of No Rights. It's not a stimulus by a long shot. What it is, in short, is a power grab aimed at creating more dependency and thus more power for the Federal Government. God forbid we should look to ourselves for a solution instead of always blaming someone else and looking to big brother to 'make it right'. Labels: government, Obama, stimulus |

Limbaugh @ CPAC
| If you missed Rush Limbaugh's speech at CPAC this afternoon Hot Air has the full hour and a half posted (10 parts). It's well worth your time especially if you've never heard him speak or listened to his show. What Happened--Housing Bubble 101.
| The following video is dated, prehistoric in net terms and probably on its second or third version due to at least one copyright issue (the original music was the Talking Heads Burning Down the House). Even though it’s already made the rounds while I was on my, ahem, permanent leave, I think it’s important to view so that you can better understand where I’m coming from or where I’m (very slowly) going with things ‘round here. The ending turns into an endorsement for McCain and just for the record while I did vote for him it was more or less a choice between worse and worst for me as far as the direction either candidate would take the country. It moves fast but worth the concentration and time as you’ll not hear or read any of it from the current administration, many current legislators, the MSM or your mother. Parting thought (consider it a rhetorical question if you'd like): I've never been one for conspiracy theories but what if the hole housing crash was premeditated--knowingly orchestrated, a sort of semi-controlled chaos? Stealing the Future
| (2) conservative takes on the healthcare provision that the MSM is not telling anyone (I selected these two b/c of their prominence and shuffling through my news reader, they represent pretty much everything a small gov’t talking head is saying). Glenn Beck "It wasn't until yesterday... that we found the hidden National Coordinator of Health Information Technology. This is in the stimulus bill. Only government can do this. They're going to monitor the treatments, make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost-effective. The goal is to reduce the cost and guide your doctor's decisions. These provisions in the stimulus bill are critical what we can do about healthcare crises. They are right out of the Daschle book. Learn, have the doctors learn to operate less like solo practitioners. So it's going to be a team. It's the collective doctor that you're going to be seeing. And don't worry about -- sure, the insurance companies are already -- do you want your healthcare determined by the insurance companies? The answer is no, never. I don't want to. Every liberal, everybody always says I don't want the healthcare insurance companies making the decision on what happens. Well, you don't have that. You now will have the Obama team. You'll now have governmental doctors and overseers making sure that this is cost- appropriate.
Rush Limbaugh The stimulus pork bill being voted on in the Senate contains the nationalization of health care, the computerization of everybody's health records, rationing of medical care for seasoned citizens. If you're a seasoned citizen and you go to the doctor, you have an ailment of some kind, the doctor will do a test. The doctor will then consult your medical records. The doctor will then consult federal guidelines to find out if you are to be treated. And if the cost of your treatment as a seasoned citizen is deemed by the government to be too expensive based on how much longer you have to live, then you don't get treated.…………………….. Sure it’s prime fodder for bloggers but only geeks like me read that sh*t…and it’s some scary sh*t. It’s Animal Farm man. The gov’t is going to decide who goes to the glue factory. Were the hell is the AARP on this? ARP's 40 million members are watching to see how Congress votes on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This legislation is a "key vote" for AARP because it will provide older Americans will real relief and jump start our economy. They’re in the tank man, in the fricken tank. I’ll bet that there’s money for them in this plan…payback time for all their support. Nevermind that they stand to take a membership hit… Oh, I’m sorry Mrs. Smith the operation to save your life is too expensive but I’ll set you up with doc Kevorkian @ the glue factory who will provide you with real relief. In the meantime you may find this enlightening. They must be hedging their bets on a surge of memberships from the boomers…..while sealing their newsletters with glue provided by the “greatest” generation. It seems to me the biggest voting block in the country is being bamboozled….they got em…hook, line and sinker. Even if it is limited to things like medicare….if grandma can’t afford private insurance that makes her expendable? This whole gov’t “heard mentality” applied to vaccinations of our children is now seemingly going to be applied on the opposite end of the spectrum.....yes sweety, grampa died for the greater good of society. What a fricken….we’re……this is not about the AARP, just distracted me for a moment. We fail to learn from history and we fail to learn from the present….what else is there but hope? Hope and change….sound familiar? I’ll be damned if the latest in a long line is going to ruin my hope and faith in the American individual..our only true hope. Cynicism on the part of the people is, after all, part of the reason we are where we are. Cynicism, selfishness, greed, a sense of entitlement..... But we're being rescued, albeit by people who live and breath selfishness and greed. Seemingly smart people who cannot and will not put a country ahead of themselves or their respective political affiliations. Take the top echelon of the IQ curve and sit them in a room together for and hour with a complex non-mathematical societal problem to solve and I guarandamntee you they’ll be flinging feces within 45 minutes. We’d be better off selecting the legislative branch from a lottery…..or a pool..like a jury.... ...where the hell is Mathewson today? Sir, he, um, he's got legislative branch duty today. The sad part is we all have legislative branch duty everyday but we're just too damn enamored in ourselves to give a sh*t about it. But this distracts me, I’ve been distracted am distracted, will be distracted. Perhaps by me labeling the whole thing a distraction I’m part of the problem…I don’t know. But I do know I worry about the future of my family, I worry about the climate we’re creating that my little girl is going to grow up in. And it’s not even the debt, the debt is a big part of it but it’s the broader picture, it’s the systematic growth of government, the systematic usurpation of rights from the states and many other issues all dreamed up to create dependency and ensure re-election. They don't give a good goddamn about me or my little girl or this country. All they care and are concerned about it maintaining and slowly increasing their power over us. The legislative pool is starting to sound better and better with each passing minute. H/T: Radio Patriot. Labels: Beck, health care, Limbaugh, stimulus |

Refreshing
| We've seen it over and over. Man robs store, store owner shoots robber, store owner hauled into court for shooting robber. Worse yet, store owner sued by robber, store owner loses suit, robber rewarded for botched robbery. Not here in Hamilton County, Ohio. The money shot is a quote from our local county prosecutor Joe Deters..... "If you go into a store with a gun to rob it, in my mind you've forfeited your right not to be shot." Ahhh, the sweet smell of sanity. |

Ethically Bankrupt
| Fox news is running a story about an uncensored documentary regarding Hillary Clinton’s fundraising practices. This video is just a small picture of what a future President Hillary Clinton would do. You can view the video here (part 1) and here (Part 2). There is no doubt in my mind that the felonies alleged in this video are just the tip of the iceberg. It is disgusting to me to think that she even has a shot at leading this country. You can read more about Hillary and her ethical problems on Dick Morris’ website. |
Freaky Images
| I’ve got a few pictures to share but before I do I should probably provide a little background information on what it is you’ll be viewing. The location of the satellite imagery is Huntersville, Ohio along State Route 309. Huntersville is an unincorporated area located in rural Hardin county about 20 miles east of Lima. All three images were screen captured from Weather.com and the imagery is courtesy of Microsoft Virtual Earth. The three pictures are of the same geographic location the only difference being the zoom level. Now take a close look around the triangular shaped wooded area. So did you see anything unusual? I was directed to weather.com today to view the image and as soon as I got zoomed in far enough a face popped out. I was instructed to look for the face of an Indian (native American not to be confused with the Indian who takes your call to Dell's tech support) had I not been I would have probably still seen the face but may not have labeled it as looking ‘Indian’. Then again I may have I’ll never know but I do know my perception was somewhat tainted in that respect. If the imagery in and of itself doesn’t perk your interest there is one final item worth mentioning. Located off the top left of the triangular shaped wooded area is an Indian burial ground. I’m not suggesting anything what-so-ever. The different shades of the soil can be explained by moisture content and the image by the fact that we see faces everywhere simply because we’re so used to seeing them. The latter would be why we find faces in clouds, tree bark the sides of buildings, the occasional chocolate chip cookie and via technology, satellite imagery. I think it’s just the way our mind has been conditioned to process what is into what is perceived. Having said that and fully believing the explanation doesn’t make it any less freaky. Follow-up to Candidate Forum
| I promised a follow up on the “debate” between the city council president candidates. As most of you know, I am also in the midst of my own campaign. It has been a very busy couple of weeks. Anyhow… The candidate forum held October 10th at the Civic Center did not provide voters with any significant, new information about either candidate. Most of the questions focused on economic development, budget and finance issues, and others. Of significance, a question from WLIO news anchor Jeff Fitzgerald regarding the recent issue of “secret meetings.” The question was posed to both candidates about how they would prevent such violations from occurring again. Of course, Mr. Magnus responded by stating that no violation occurred. He also stated that the way the legislation was handled (pulled from the Safety Services committee by yours truly) was of more concern to him. It doesn’t surprise me that he could not answer the question without taking an indirect swipe at me. Overall, due to time constraints and the desire to keep the forum “positive,” nothing significant was revealed. There are more debates to follow. On a separate note, the Lima news has published on their website, profiles of each of the candidates as well as responses to questions we were asked. The link to the Allen County races can be found here. There will also be editorial write ups in a print edition closer to the election. Finally, there will be a candidate forum for the ward races held on October 30th at the Civic Center. |

Conflict of Interest
| These articles were published on the Front Page of the Lima News and the Editorial page of the Lima news on Sunday. It certainly seems at though our 1st Ward city councilman my have multiple conflicts of interest when voting on the Casino Issue that had been before Lima City Council earlier this fall. I certaily have concerns over the ability of Mr Magnus to be fair and impartial on this issue. On another note, the first debate forum between candidates for Lima City Council President will be held tonight. Report to follow... |

Violation of Ohio Sunshine Laws
| Its not often you have a elected official admit to holding discussions and making decisions about official city business without doing so in a public hearing. This would constitute a potential violation of Ohio’s open meeting laws(often call the sunshine laws). This is the take of the Lima News Editorial staff. |
Stirring the Pot...
| As a member of Lima City Council, I have a duty to represent the people of the 2nd Ward. I am also responsible for bringing concerns of citizens to council or other government committees when appropriate. In May, the issue of marijuana possession laws and potential deficiencies in our current city ordinances was brought to me by a resident of the 2nd ward. I referred his concerns, along with literature citing changes Cincinnati made to strengthen their ordinances to councils Safety Services committee. After four months of inaction, I moved to remove the referral from the safety services committee to my own committee to insure a hearing. The voice vote was in favor of this motion. What happened next (as recounted by the Lima News), was absolutely shocking to everyone in attendance. Unfortunately, I believe this is only a snapshot of what may lie ahead for Lima City Council, pending the outcome of the November election. I made a commitment to stand on my conservative beliefs and my desire to work on behalf of the people of Lima, for the people and the city of Lima, not for self gain. Politics, such as what occurred Monday night has no place in government at any level. |

The death of Representative Paul Gillmor
| Today came word from Washington that Representative Paul Gillmor was found dead in his apartment. Many Republicans will admit that, even while President of the Ohio Senate (traditionally a moderate republican) Rep. Gillmor was a staunch conservative who was well liked on both sides of the aisle. His leadership in both Ohio and U.S. politics will be sorely missed. God Bless. |

Various Musings...
| I have been a real slacker since vacation a week ago. I keep thinking about posting issues here, but have not had time to post what I really wanted. The result is a variety of small issues that have developed over the last three weeks. First. Lima City Council voted down an ordinance that would have placed the Inter Governmental Agreement between the Shawnee Indians and the City of Lima on the November ballot. At stake is a destination resort casino. The halt in progress on the IGA is the result of advice from legal council obtained by the city. Several issues were pointed out as potential concerns with the current draft of the IGA. While I am disappointed that the issue is in a holding pattern, I certainly agree that this IGA must be a rock solid agreement. We have made great progress in the IGA, but issues of sovereignty, liability protections for casino employees and patrons, use of tribe payments to the city, the length of the agreement, and defining what gaming revenues are. I will continue to support placing the IGA on the ballot for the residents of the City of Lima to approve or deny, if and when an agreement comes to fruition. Second. I, Like fourth ward city councilman Tom Tebben, am tired of being told that I am “going to hell” for my stance on the Casino issue. I personally would like to see the development occur. Some $20 Billion leaves Ohio every year to neighboring states who have casino's. The economics make sense. I will ALWAYS support a vote of the people on this issue. At least that way, everyone who votes “yes” will be there with me! Third, As everyone has seen by now, most of northwest Ohio has been ravaged by flooding. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected. Findlay, Bluffton and Ottawa have been especially hit. Here in Lima there were multiple streets with high water that were closed. Fortunately, the worst damage in Lima was an intersection on North Shore Dr and Collett. Water pressure built up in the storm sewer caused the 84-inch pipe, 30 feet deep in the ground to blow sending its manhole cover at least 12 feet in the air reaching the traffic lights. I have seen some truly amazing pictures of the flooding and encourage anyone to check out foxnews.com or the limanews.com to get an idea of the damage. Finally, for those sports fans out there, another football season is upon us. It is going to be a rather predictable season for my teams. At the high school level, Elida is going to continue its losing ways, as evidenced by last night’s 51-0 drubbing (game was called at half time due to lightning). Ohio State is a huge underdog in the Big Ten but will certainly surprise many (if we can watch the games…come on Big Ten Network and Time Warner get these games on TV). The Cleveland Browns will continue with their 9th year of “rebuilding” since coming back into the NFL…at least they are not part of the Cincinnati Bengals penal league!!! ( I realize the previous comment might get me banned from this blog ) |

Precious Poets Remember Our Troops; Back a Play
| There was a young gentleman who read Beyond Glory: Medal of Honor Heroes in Their Own Words by Larry Smith. After reading this book, he felt compelled to write a play about these men and tell their stories in words. It opened in 2004 "on the edge of Arlington Cemetery, at a small theater inside the Women in Military Service Memorial." Eight of these men were chosen of the twenty-four available to represent the men to be honored. There was an apolitical play, meaning this was not about politics. It is about our Heroes. So how did it Mr. Lang, the performer, come to travel the world performing his play for our men and women in the Middle East, on the DMZ (dividing line between North and South Korea), Europe, and many other places? This is where our precious poets step up to the plate to support our Troops. Mr. Peede had been asked to direct a new NEA [National Endowment for the Arts] program called Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience. Its intention was to help soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, or their families, to put their experiences into writing--fiction, non-fiction and poetry. The idea was suggested to NEA Chairman Dana Gioia, a poet, by Connecticut poet Marilyn Nelson, who'd recently served as a visiting writer at West Point. Good for the poets. It is a wonderful thing that has been done, finally, by the NEA and the Opinion Journal's article. You may purchase Operation Homecoming at Amazon.com. I thought you might like to know. Have a wonderful day! :) Editor's Note: There will be another open trackback today.
